Elona Borukhova

Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac)

Registered Nurse (RN)

Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)

Thank you for visiting my website

My name is Elona Borukhova. I’m a licensed acupuncturist in the state of California as well as nationally licensed through NCCAOM.

I hold 20 years of experience in multiple areas of medicine. I’m a Registered Nurse (RN) as well as Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). My passion, knowledge for medicine and patient care is what I do best.

As a Nurse Practitioner I’ve treated pain with narcotics and muscle relaxants. At the age of 25, I started to experience a lot of lower back pain. This is when, I was recommended to look into acupuncture. Initially to be honest, I was skeptical. In Western medicine, not much credit is given to alternative approaches. However, throughout the years it started to shift and the public is seeking for other ways to care for their body and mind. Since then, I admire what acupuncture can offer to our healing process. Throughout my life I turned to acupuncture for treatment of migraines and infertility, both with great success.  I also referred my patients as a Nurse Practitioner to seek acupuncture for pain and saw amazing results.

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, my training includes treating young adults. Our kids, teens and future generation are currently experiencing much more pressure than before. Expectations in academics as well as excelling in sports or other activities are common triggers.

I strongly believe this is the best time for parents to expose their children to alternative medicine such as acupuncture. The young population responds well to acupuncture in my experience as a medical professional, including my own children. We can rebalance their body and mind with just a few treatments, using few points. I use thin, high quality needles called Seirin. I continue to advise parents to support their children’s acupuncture treatments as I see an increase in the number of young adults seeking them. The most common complaints include pain related to sports injuries, anxiety, depression, stress, nervousness, digestive and skin issues. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Taking care of your health is not negotiable. Therefore my goal is to educate the public about acupuncture. There are so many  of us, who live everyday with pain/other issues, who think it’s normal and who have never even heard of acupuncture. I also believe, that it has to be accessible and affordable to all. I understand many do not like the idea of needles. However, I invite you to schedule a session with me and realize acupuncture needles are thin and cause minimal discomfort. I often say, when you feel better, a little needle pinch won’t bother you.

In 2016, I entered Pacific College of Oriental Medicine to study Chinese Medicine. I was dedicated to the study of acupuncture, because I knew now for sure that I wanted to offer my patients a more elevated level of care and relief.

I was born in the former Soviet Union. I’m fluent in Russian. At the age of 12 my family immigrated to New York City. At the age of 16, I was asked by my neighbor if I could watch her elderly mother (92 years old)  while she was at work. With my limited English and not really sure what was expected from me, I said yes I will. I was just completing 10th grade and thought this would be a good opportunity to make some money over the summer. For the next 3 months 5 days/week, 6 hours/day,  I took care of this fragile 92 year old woman whose name was Harriet. I get her out of the bed, dress her and make breakfast, blitzes with cheese every morning. Take Harriet on a short walk and spend time sitting in the park. Feed her lunch, give her a bath, rub her feet with lotion and she was ready to watch her news. I would do light cleaning around the house, wash dishes and walk back home. Looking back at how I cared for Harriet, it was clear to me that caring for someone who is in need was natural to me.

In my senior year of High School, my counselor informed me about a program for those who are considering a career in health care. The best part was, I did not have to attend any academic classes, take any exams or even go to school for the whole 12th grade. I enrolled into the program and it was the best decision I made. For the whole school year, I was assigned to go to the hospital and was rotated through multiple specialties within the hospital every two weeks. I was in the operating room, delivery room, cardiology, medical-surgical units, learning about various specialties and fields in the healthcare industry. I was fascinated with the roles nurses played in medicine. After graduating High School, I was headed to nursing school. I received Bachelors and Masters in nursing from Long Island University and worked in multiple settings and specialties across NYC.

I would like to see alternative medicine be incorporated into our current medical structure. I believe, alternative approach is able to offer so much healing to those in need.

In 2011, I moved to San Diego with my family. Shortly after,  I joined Scripps Hospital of Encinitas in the field of neurology.

When I’m not working, I enjoy the outdoors, being surrounded by nature, being a mother, as well as reading, painting and baking sourdough bread.

My Approach & Values

Merging the very best of both Western and Eastern medicine, I offers a holistic perspective and individualized treatment to all my  patients.

Prior to exploration of acupuncture, I passionately cared for patients as both a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.
My expertise in those roles spanned multiple specialty areas, including cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, internal medicine, pain management, weight management, and surgery.

I believe each of us deserve an opportunity and exposure to this ancient medicine. Today, my acupuncture patients benefit from my blended “east meets west” understanding of disease origins and unique approach for addressing both underlying root of illness and external manifestations.

I value the connection and understanding I build with each of my clients.
